There’s a common misconception that cats and dogs can’t peacefully coexist under one roof, but evidence suggests otherwise. A study published in PLOS ONE in 2020 surveyed 1,270 pet owners with both cats and dogs, revealing that the majority observed their furry companions not only living together harmoniously but also enjoying each other’s company. Over 64 percent of the surveyed households reported their pets playing together, and 20.8 percent even shared meal times.

Among the many happy cohabiting pairs is Sunny the Maltese and her rescue cat buddy, Max, residing with their owner in New Jersey. Sunny joined the family as a 5-month-old puppy, and four years later, Max became part of the household. Their bond, centered around a mutual love for playtime, is showcased on the @max_and_sunny Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Max and Sunny are particularly fond of play-fighting, evident from their lively interactions captured on social media. While their antics make for delightful content, it can pose a challenge for their owner working from home. Despite the occasional disruption, witnessing the joy and camaraderie between Max and Sunny brings warmth to their home.
